I agree that Trump can't steal the midterms, but neither does engaging purely in public debates make a significant difference. We must find a way to expand social infrastructure, so that more people are exposed to the lived experiences of one another. Maoz Inon talks about actively making hope. It's easier said than done, but we can all try to pitch in.
